木材的选择须综合考虑它的内在干缩性、抗蛀虫抗腐蚀性以及它的密度和天然翘曲性。市面上主要采用缅甸樱桃木、胡桃木；非洲进口的沙比利、黑檀；非洲进口的花梨木（俗名：巴花）等，这些木种各种性能良好，特别适合江南一带气候使用。传统的原木门都是先将各种加工好的零部件组装成一扇完整的门，再将整扇门进行全封闭油漆。由于热胀冷缩，木门在使用一段时间后会出现裂痕。而解决这一方法的最佳途径就是采用分体拼装工艺，即木工完成后，先进行多遍油漆再拼装最后喷上保护面漆，该技术为各个部件的拼接处都预留收缩缝，看起来结实而美观。
